Self-care Routine Tips To Keep You Feeling Your Best

For many people, a self-care routine is the last priority on an ever-growing to-do list. It would be nice to have a spa day or treat yourself to a massage on a regular basis. Unfortunately, most people don’t have the time to enjoy these luxuries these days. However, there is a simple way to take better care of yourself so that you have more energy to tackle those to-do lists. Getting into a regular routine will help you take better care of yourself and keep you feeling your best. Here are 4 key things to include in your self-care routine:

Getting enough sleep is essential to your health.

Sleep is the time that our bodies and minds need to recharge. More and more information is coming out about how important sleep is and how dangerous sleep deprivation can be. Sleep deprivation decreases our overall health and function. It is impossible for your body and brain to function optimally if you don’t get enough sleep. Set a routine and stick to it. Turn off screen time at least 2 hours prior to bedtime; emails, TV shows, and social media can all wait. Don’t let them cost you your valuable sleep time!

Stay hydrated.

Your body needs water, and your mind isn’t as sharp if you’re dehydrated. Keep in mind that we live in a desert climate, and it is very easy to become dehydrated. A good general guideline is drinking half your body weight in ounces of water daily. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink about 75 ounces of water each day.

Regular activity is important for overall physical and mental well-being.

Some people thrive at the gym, while others need regular fun activities to get them moving. Find what works best for you. It doesn’t have to be complicated; it needs to involve moving your body. It needs to be something you can stick to regularly that gets your heart rate elevated. Maybe it’s running or cycling or even line dancing! Be creative and find something you enjoy doing.

Include daily stretching in your self-care routine.

Most people don’t take the time to stretch adequately. Stretching is important because it helps maintain your body’s flexibility and prevent injury and gradual movement restrictions, particularly as we age. It also helps relieve muscular tension. Research the best morning stretching exercises that fit into your daily routine.
