Being healthy and free of pain requires a ProActive approach to your body. What is Pilates?  Pilates is a method of exercise that was developed over 75 years ago by Joseph Pilates. Over his lifetime Pilates created over 500 exercises and machines which assist the individual to strengthen the body with control and precision. It combines the use of breath and focus while simultaneously increasing muscle strength and flexibility. The exercises focus on strengthening the body’s core muscles (abdominals, buttocks and back muscles). It has been found to be very effective in alleviating back pain which is caused from degeneration of the spine and/or muscle imbalances. Who can do Pilates?Everyone Pilates is the ideal exercise program for anyone wanting to strengthen their coremuscles, improve balance, move more safely and increase energy. People With Pain Pilates has been found to be effective in alleviating and/or preventing common ailments, such as back and neck pain, headaches, orshoulder and knee pain. Older Populations Pilates can be modified to suit all ages and conditions. Restoring strength and flexibility eases the aging process. Athletes Many athletes have found that Pilates increases their speed and agility. Golfers hit the ball farther, cyclists ride faster, and all with decreased risk of injury. InstructorJenny Constenius, PT, CPI is a certified Pilates instructor and a licensed physical therapist since 1990. She has incorporated Pilates exercises into her work as a physical therapist to help people SAFELY strengthen their core muscles and improve movement patterns. By combining her knowledge in physical therapy and Pilates techniques she has the expertise to train your body effectively while minimizing risk of injury.
